After the Climb: A River Rain Novel by Kristen Ashley #review @kristenashley68

The beginning of the binge-worthy, powerful, and heart-tugging saga from NYT bestseller Kristen Ashley.

They were the Three Amigos: Duncan Holloway, Imogen Swan and Corey Szabo. Two young boys with difficult lives at home banding together with a cool girl who didn’t mind mucking through the mud on their hikes.

They grew up to be Duncan Holloway, activist, CEO and face of the popular River Rain outdoor stores, Imogen Swan, award-winning actress and America’s sweetheart, and Corey Szabo, ruthless tech billionaire.

Rich and very famous, they would learn the devastating knowledge of how the selfish acts of one would affect all their lives.

And the lives of those they loved.

Start the River Rain series with After the Climb, the story of Duncan and Imogen navigating their way back to each other, decades after a fierce betrayal.

And introduce yourself to their families, who will have their stories told when River Rain continues.

Being completely honest I am a KA fan, so I feel a a bit bad saying the first half of this book was blah. I found it to be very cliche and too much like all of her other books. The death/suicide of Corey was a little weird. They didn't get too into him being a mental case though. I mean in the past/present format, there was no deep dive into him being depressed or anything. I don't know why but I just didn't connect so good with him.

When young lovers call it quits in this way, or anyway in fact, I have a hard time thinking that 28 years goes by and there is always that love that was not resolved, pining away and always on your mind.

The point where the book picks up steam is halfway through. Once we get passed the initial 1,000 pages of I am sorry Imogen and Duncan have resolved their issue of Corey. The family is really the best part of the book. I would say in particular is Corey's son because while he was not featured so much, he was practically raised by Imogen.

So I move on to book 2 with a lot of hope
