Book Blurb:

Jett Olsson isn’t looking for anything serious and she’s not looking for anything at all, so why does it seem so hard to keep it professional? I love my life—the thrill of being on the ice as part of the Arizona Vengeance, the rush of winning, the adoration of the fans. And if that adoration means I don’t have to spend the night alone, well even better. I’m content being single and always ready to mingle. But the day Emory Holland walks into a Vengeance team meeting my attention is caught like never before. I can tell right away she’s full of smarts and sass, and the fact that she’s hot as hell sure doesn’t hurt either. She immediately shuts down my advances, so I opt for the road less traveled—straight to the friend zone. My approach works like a charm, and when she invites me into her bed for a no-strings, friends-with-benefits arrangement, I vow to give her everything I have. She’s been hurt before, and if I’m able to help her heal while giving her a spectacularly satisfying time *pats self on back*, then I’ll be happy. Or at least that’s the lie I keep telling myself as the time ticks down on the final buzzer of our “relationship”. Now the real question is, can I score the winning goal in a game neither of us realized we were playing?

Chapter One

Shelby picked up the suitcase she’d packed for her niece, Callie, and her nephew, Anders. She’d babysat for them today, something she did at least once a week, but today she came knowing things were going to change.
Hauling the luggage down the grand staircase, as her sister had lovingly dubbed it, she held tight to the banister, knowing every second counted. Her brother-in-law, Kurtis, had left twenty minutes ago and she only had three hours to get as far away from here as possible.
Setting the heavy suitcase on the floor at the bottom of the stairs, she pulled up the handle and quickly walked to the living room where the kids were watching a cartoon movie.
“Okay kiddos, let’s get rolling.”
Callie turned to her, a slight pout on her lips. “But Aunt Shelby, we love this movie.”
Smiling at her beautiful niece, her curly dark hair pushed back with a pink headband, she said, “I know you do and I have a surprise for you. You can watch it in my car.”
Anders jumped up. “Yay!”
Anders and Callie were only two years apart, Callie seven and Anders five, but both of them were mature beyond their years. They’d had to grow up fast in the past month.
“Okay, turn the television off. I have this movie in the car and ready to go for you. And I have snacks.”
Callie grabbed the remote and pointed it at the television, promptly turning it off. She then walked to the table alongside the sofa, opened the drawer and neatly set the remote inside. Their father didn’t allow anything out of place.
Callie grabbed Anders’ hand and they followed her to the door that led to the garage, where they’d get in the vehicle without anyone seeing a suitcase being tucked in the back.
Shelby opened the back door of the SUV, her precious Explorer that she’d scrimped and saved for, and the kids scrambled in.
Shelby leaned in and buckled Anders in, then walked to the other side and double-checked Callie’s seat belt. Opening the hatch, she hefted the suitcase into the back, then tugged the large cooler she’d packed at home toward her. Pulling out two juice bottles and two homemade egg, bacon and cheese breakfast muffins, she took great care to set each one of them up with their snacks.
Shelby hopped into the driver’s seat, turned on the DVD player and pushed the buttons to start their favorite movie playing. Taking a deep breath and sending up a silent prayer that she’d get them out of the state in time, she tapped the garage door opener and put the Explorer in reverse.
A quick glance at the clock told her she now had two hours and fifteen minutes to make tracks.
She figured that with stops they’d be in Indiana in about five hours. She knew the kids would need a break, but she hoped to keep it to a minimum. She’d keep her phone on until her brother-in-law called to check in, then she’d turn it off so he’d not be any the wiser. Hopefully.
She didn’t want to alert the controlling bastard that she’d taken the kids any sooner than necessary.
This plan had to work. She couldn’t lose these kids too. Bad enough that she suspected Kurtis had killed her sister—or at a minimum, had her killed. Stacy would never have up and left her kids. She’d never leave them alone with that bastard. Something was sinister about him and the second she’d overheard him on the phone yesterday telling someone he had to “deal with Stacy’s brats,” she feared they’d soon turn up missing, too.

Title: Rainbow
Series: Ruthless Kings MC: Baton Rouge Chapter #1
Author: K.L. Savage
Genre: Dark MM Romantic Suspense/Organized Crime
Release Date: July 20, 2021

BLURB

Fire is the reason why my life changed.
And I’m the reason why fire doesn’t stand a chance.

I’m a smokejumper.
I save those who can’t be saved.
But somewhere along the way, smoke has blinded me.
I’ve forgotten there is more to life than saving lives, but I can’t press pause.
A category five hurricane heading straight toward us changes everything I ever thought I knew about myself.
For instance, Ryan Hathaway.
Paramedic from Vegas. Sexier than sin. Sassy.
A man.

I’ve never wanted a man.
But I want him.
And he makes me feel the hottest I’ve ever felt.
Fire can’t even compare to him.
Only thing is, he doesn’t do straight guys. It’s his rule.
What I love about rules is that they are made to be broken.
And I’m going to make him rewrite everything he thought he knew.

Nothing is ever black and white, though.
It’s the details that live in the shades of grey that we need to watch out for.
The hurricane dislodges one of my MC brother's hate and hits us harder than the storm does.
Wind. Rain. Blood. Death.
The storm is far from over and our lives are at stake.
I live my life to the fullest and I won’t die with regrets.
Ryan is the blaze I never want to fight.
If we go down, we will burn together.
Extinguishing us is not an option.

Because after a storm, there’s always a rainbow.
I’ll be damned if I don’t finally see what’s at the end.

EXCERPT

How the hell do I get myself in these situations? Out of all the jobs as a paramedic, I find myself constantly in front of biker gangs more than regular patients. I mean, I leave Vegas and come to Baton Rouge to do a favor for my boss and end up in Ruthless Kings territory, again? Do they multiply when I blink or something?
Should have told my boss that I wouldn’t swing by his old stomping ground to help cover a staffing shortage his friend was experiencing. It seemed convenient. Stay in Baton Rouge until the storm passes, then head down to the coast where they’ll need me most.
Now I’m here, and I can’t tell if the biker looking at me wants to eat me, fuck me, or kill me.
“For a little guy, you sure know your way around bone,” Butcher grunts.
“For a guy named Butcher, you sure do complain a lot.” I press the fresh bandage against his thigh, maybe a little harder than necessary, and he growls at me.
I always liked riling up a guy bigger than me. I don’t know why. I know I don’t have a death wish, but it’s fun, and usually, bigger guys won’t pick on me. I’m sure my luck will run out soon, but until then, I’m going to poke every single bear.
And giggle as I run away.
“Okay. I’ll just say it was an accident and that no one got shot, or we’d have to report it to the police, and I don’t feel like staying here longer than necessary. Not that your hospitality isn’t… wonderful,” I add, only to sound more like a jerk.
The big guy, the one that wears the patch that says Prez, laughs as he strokes his chin with his fingers. “You’re welcome back anytime, Ryan. We appreciate your willingness to… cooperate.” He reaches into his cut pocket—I learned they weren’t vests after being corrected a few years ago—and pulls out a stack of money.
Here’s the thing about bricks of cash like this: it’s most likely illegal money. Maybe it’s drug money or blood money, but honestly? I don’t really care. I have student loan debt to pay.
I pluck the cash out of his hand and tuck it into my paramedic bag. “It’s been a pleasure doing business with you.” I give them a mock salute and swallow down my nerves as I wade through the very large bodies covered in leather.
Now that I’m looking at them, I can’t help but wonder if they’re going to let me leave. Maybe I’ll get lucky. Perhaps they’ll want to take turns with my body and ravish me. I might be a smart man, but I’m still a man, and somehow these bikers get better looking with each state I end up in.
Ah, a man can dream, can’t he?
Lye, according to his patch on his vest—I mean, cut—opens the door for me.
Once I’m outside, I take a deep breath and don’t bother looking back. Of course, the quicker I get out of here, the better.
“Hey!”
A deep voice with a twangy edge has me freezing mid-step next to the rig, and I try not to panic. Did one of the guys see me check them out? I didn’t. I think I kept my eyes to myself. I thrust my shoulders back and open the doors to the rig to toss the medical bag inside. I close the left side and see the most handsome man I’ve seen in my entire life. I suck in a breath—no—he stole my ability to breathe, looking as good as he does.

We move along to the head of the line. “One cappuccino and a double shot caramel latte, please,” I say to the woman behind the counter as I reach over to the payment machine, ready to tap my card.
“Let me get those,” a deep voice cuts in. A hand reaches forward, giving a note to the woman behind the counter. “Keep the change.” She blushes as she takes it. If I didn’t recognize the voice, then the Rolex watch on his wrist would give it away. I turn around and stare straight into the dark, glinting eyes of Tanner as he removes his sunglasses.
“We can buy our own coffee, you know,” I say. It comes out harder than I intended it to, but Tanner doesn’t flinch.
“Or you could just say thank you,” he says, studying my face with a smirk. God, I want to slap it off his face. I bet he thinks I’m happy to see him. The fact I haven’t called or text him since that night together should tell him I’m not.
“Thank you.” Megan smiles, looking up at him. I scowl at her quickly. Traitor.
“You’re very welcome, Megan.” He grins at her before turning his gaze back to mine, one eyebrow raised as though he finds something amusing. I will the woman behind the counter to hurry with our drinks so we can get out of here.
“What are you doing here, anyway? I’m fairly sure there are no fancy, smug apartment complexes around here like the one you must live in.”
Despite being used to my bluntness, I see Megan glance between us warily.
“Early business meeting,” he says smoothly, unaffected by my tone. I look down and swallow hard as I take in his charcoal grey suit, white shirt, and deep red tie.
He wears it well, very well.
“Well, got to be going,” he says as he runs his hand through his dark, wavy hair. Hair that I held in my fists as he fucked me with his tongue just days ago. I shake the thought from my head as I frown at him. His eyes flash darkly, “You going to thank me for your coffee, Snow?” He rolls the last word off of his lips purposefully so that I look at them, once again reminded of just how skilled his mouth is.
“No,” I say childishly, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Too bad,” he says as he plucks my takeaway cup off the counter and takes a sip. “Mmm, caramel latte. Not had one of these in a while.” He winks at me as he walks off with it in his hand.
“Nice to see you again, Megan. Oh, and happy key day!” he calls over his shoulder as he walks off.
“Rach, did he just…?”
“Yes,” I reply, “he just signed his own death wish.”

Exclusive Excerpt:

Anablue stood on the dock next to Donall’s sailboat. The string of profanity coming from inside the cabin burnt her ears. A cloud of choking, acrid, diesel exhaust poured from the galley as Donall made an exit coughing, choking while waving his arms to clear the air. He stopped, his loud and descriptive curse dying on his lips.   Her eyes wide and a half-smile on her face. She bit her lip. “Hmmm. Engine trouble?” she ventured. Donall’s frustration was apparent as he snarled, pointing inside the cabin. “That beast. That beast should be taken out, shot, burnt, and sunk to the bottom of the bay.”   “Well. Let me look at it first,” she said.   “You? You want to take a shot at it? A girl.”   “You doubt me?” she asked.   Nodding his head, regarding her with amused skepticism. “Okay Baby blue. Take your best shot.”   Anablue set her things down. Buttoning up her pink painting shirt, she climbed down onto the deck of the boat.   Pulling her hair back and tying it into a messy bun. Taking the wrench from his hand, she walked into the cabin with a sassy “just watch me” swing to her hips.   The engine was tucked under the floorboards of the cabin. Lying next to him on her tummy on the floor, she worked while he handed her the various tools she needed.   “I didn’t know sailboats had engines,” she said. “Kind of odd, don’t you think?”   “I think the previous owner added it. You need one if you end up adrift somewhere. I would hate to have to paddle back to port,” Donall said.   “Oh yeah. That would not be fun.”   “So, tell me how a girl like you knows how to fix an engine?” Donall asked.   “It goes back a while. First, it’s time for a secret.”   Donall chuckled. “Tell away.”   “I’m afraid of horses,” she said. “They’re big and intimidating. Mind you, I lived on a ranch. I never quite mastered the art of horseback riding like my brother and just about everyone else did. For me, just getting on the horse was like a clown show, let alone getting the horse to go where I wanted it to go.   “Your secret is safe with me,” Donall said.   “Anyhow, when I was fourteen I was always tinkering on my Gram’s old tractor, along with old engines in the pole barn. I used it as an excuse not to ride. I was too busy. Eventually, I talked the old mechanic, Bud, into hiring me to work at the gas station in town.”   A wide grin split his face. “A mechanic, you’re a mechanic.”   “Don’t laugh. I started out pumping gas and changing oil. Bud finally let me help him work on cars and trucks. He was getting old, so he retired and sold the gas station. The new owner didn’t want a girl working for him. I lost my job. So, you see I’ve been dealing with sexism for a very long time.”   Donall nodded. “You’re right. I was out of line. I am sorry.”   She nodded her head. “It hurt at the time, but then I was off to “see the world” with a new job.   After a couple of years, Gram got sick and I couldn’t leave her alone, so I had to go home. Even after she died, I never went back. Being a woman mechanic, they didn’t want me back. I was a bit of an embarrassment for them. I am, however, a certified mechanic.”   “How did you manage that?”   “In high school, I took night classes. I stuffed my hair up into a hat and wore my brother’s baggy clothes. They thought I was a boy.”   “They had to be blind. Even covered in grease I can see you’re a girl.”   “My dream when I was growing up was to own that little gas station.”   “And now?” Donall asked.   “I don’t know right now. The funny thing is, dreams change,” Anablue replied.   Donall reached over and ran his finger down her cheekbone to her neck. Snuggling into her, he placed soft kisses on her neck.   “No canoodling the mechanic,” she said, with a shiver.   Donall’s muffled laughter as he nuzzled her neck sent desire coursing through her body. She dropped the wrench and turned to him. He pulled her into his arms as his lips found hers. Tasting, exploring, he plundered her mouth and her neck, moving to the hint of cleavage at the V of her shirt. His hands roamed her body. From the curve of her back to her waist, and up to cup her breasts. She returned his fervent kisses, lost in his touch, an unknown need grew inside of her.   “Eight bells, Anablue.” Capt. Jack’s call brought her out of her passion-filled trance. Sitting up, she traced his lips with her finger leaving a trail of grease.   “You’re a dangerous man, Donall with two L’s.” She rose to her feet and left the cabin.
